science made simple‘s David just loves to spread his enthusiasm for science with people of all ages, all around the world. When science made simple offered free science communication training by David to Lightyear Foundation, it was the start of a beautiful relationship! Find out about the initial training here.

Now, David has further strengthened the relationship between science made simple and Lightyear Foundation by joining their Board of Trustees,

Lightyear Foundation believe that:

“EVERYBODY SHOULD HAVE THE OPPORTUNITYTO UNLOCK THEIR POTENTIAL, SOLVE PROBLEMS AND ENGAGE WITH SCIENCE”

And so do we!

Lab_13 Ghana

We are also thrilled to learn about their latest project, Lab_13 Ghana, a new concept in science education.

Lab_13 is a dedicated space in a school, managed by young people for young people – where curiosity and experimentation are driven by imagination.

Lab_13 is managed by a committee of young people who are guided and encouraged by a scientist-in-residence who is not a teacher. Scientific enquiry comes from the pupils’ questions and imagination.

The aim of the project is to empower young people by giving them a basic understanding of science. For an area where trained scientists and engineers are in short supply, it’s vital that students learn that ingenuity and curiosity can be harnessed to help the lives of their communities. For example, learning how bacteria work can reduce mortality caused by diarrhoea, or learning how to make home-made solar panels, which can charge a mobile phone.

For this project to become a reality, Lab_13 Ghana needs your support. Find out more about the project and how you can help, here.

science made simple is very excited to be working more closely with Lightyear Foundation and can’t wait to get more people involved in science! David will soon be sharing his skills, experience and passion, and help shape the strategy and direction of this very worthwhile charity.
