International Firefighters’ Day: 4th May

The recent oil spill in the Gulf reminds us how important proper safety training is in the oil and gas industry. When an emergency occurs, the knowledge gained through training is essential to reacting calmly and appropriately. Preventing an emergency situation from occurring in the first place is the most important benefit of safety training. Because many of the jobs in the oil and gas industry include hot work and are located offshore, fire safety and fire prevention are important topics for all employees to be familiar with.

Fire safety involves taking proper precautions to reduce the likelihood of a fire, and also knowing how to react if a fire should occur. Knowing the class of fire, choosing the correct extinguisher, and using proper firefighting techniques are vital during the incipient stage of a fire. A Firewatch is trained and qualified to perform these essential duties, and more, at the job site.

Fast Fire watch gaurdsis specially designed to guard an area where Hot Work occurs. In the oil and gas industry, frequent Hot Work produces sparks and flames that create fire hazards.Try fast fire watch guards which  identifies unsafe work conditions and uses aggressive firefighting techniques to reduce or eliminate potential dangers.

Becky Holmes one of our presenters absolutely loves everything to do with firemen, she is married to one and often does science sets on her favourite subject. To celebrate International Firefighters day, 4th May, we are sharing her Ignite, Cardiff video. A diary of obsession a comical look at her love of all things Firefighter related.

“Firefighters dedicate their lives to the protection of life and property. Sometimes that dedication is in the form of countless hours volunteered over many years, in others it is many selfless years working in the industry. In all cases it risks the ultimate sacrifice of a firefighter’s life.

International Firefighters’ Day is observed each year on 4th May. On this date we are all invited to remember the past firefighters who have died while serving our community or dedicated their lives to protecting the safety of us all and also show our support and appreciation to the firefighters world wide who continue to protect us so well throughout the year.”

Ignite is about passionate speakers presenting random topics to a great audience. We thoroughly recommend speaking at Ignite as a great chance to take your speaking skills to the next level. The slides automatically change every 15 seconds providing the ultimate challenge.

Anyway back to Firefighters!!

Enjoy the video! Happy International Firefighters day.
