Our South England Branch is Officially Open for Business!

Last week saw science made simple host a launch party to celebrate the opening of our newest branch at The Open University in Milton Keynes. Following its success, we are proud to announce that the branch is now officially open, allowing us to spread our passion for science to more people than ever before.

The Launch Party

We had a fantastic turn out to the launch party with guests from local schools and home educators along with Open University staff, all keen to find out about science made simple.

The event began with a welcome from Dr Arlëne Hunter, Head of The Environment, Earth and Ecosystems Department at The Open University.

Our director, Wendy Sadler,  spoke about our company’s mission and history. She spoke of changing the perception of science amongst young people and inspiring them to become the next generation of scientists and engineers.

The manager of our new south England branch, Dr Leanne Gunn, gave an impassioned speech about her journey from starting her studies in volcanology, to working for science made simple and her inspiring vision for the south England branch:

“I don’t want this new branch to just be an outpost of science made simple, I want it to be a vibrant hub of creative people, passionate about science communication – much like the Cardiff office is today”

The Entertainment

It wouldn’t be a science made simple event without some science, so it was over to Becky Holmes to showcase some of our most popular demonstrations! These included a live ultrasound scan on members of the audience, making giant and cube shaped bubbles, and generating sound with straws, wine glasses and a blowtorch.

The office was declared officially open when Becky used centripetal force to spin cava around her head in a full circle, to the general amazement of the assembled guests.

“The children absolutely loved the science demonstrations, and the adults were very receptive to our mission with collaborations already beginning to form during the event.”
