Director of science made simple, Wendy Sadler has been elected to join the board of the Institute for Welsh Affairs (IWA) from January 2008.
The Institute of Welsh Affairs (IWA), founded in 1987, is an
independent think-tank, which acts as a bridge between public
policy makers, the academic community, business and non-profit
organisations. It operates by commissioning research, organising
seminars, lectures and conferences to facilitate debate, and by
publishing reports and policy papers.
Wendy Sadler said, ‘As a scientist who is passionate about the importance of engaging a wider community with science, engineering and technology, I hope to help the IWA develop strategies to help schools to invest in science enrichment activities and to embed science within the popular culture of Wales. We need to be just as proud of our scientists and engineers as our sports stars and musicians.’
Following on from the establishment of 'Engineering Explained' Wendy has also been awarded an ERA fellowship for the work done by the company on promoting engineering to schools and the public.
The ERA Foundation contributes to the economic
vitality of the UK by supporting activities that help bridge the gap
between research and exploitation in electrotechnology. More information on the fellow can be found here
