Science Busking Training for Schools

Half day session

Why wait around for an audience to turn up when you can take the show to them? Science busking takes live demonstrations and interpretations to people who may never have thought of stepping foot in a science centre or museum. It also presents some unique challenges - weather, stray dogs, audiences voting with their feet. It's very live, very interactive and can be very rewarding.

Busking can be a devastatingly effective means of communicating science and at its best is a wholly open invitation to play and investigate the world around us, for children of all ages (4 to 84!).

Our skilled presenters have been very lucky in having had the opportunity to busk around the world. David Price was particularly fortunate in 2010 to win a scholarship to attend the World Busking Championships in Dublin, in order to bring techniques from street busking professionals into the world of science communication.

Our world renowned training delivers a highly interactive event, where science busking and science busking training are used to provide students with:

  • Re-enforcement of science knowledge
  • Strong science and science communication role models
  • Science communication skills

Reviews:

One of our schools that have hosted the training have carried it forward by asking their year 10 pupils to busk to an audience of governors and school VIPs during their  NSEW celebrations. It was a great success and has been successfully repeated. The school has been particularly pleased with the way students have taken ownership of this project. The original year 10 pupils have started to train the years below them in busking techniques. Several teachers have mentioned how they thought the training was also an excellent source of continuing personal development for the pupils. They also commended the busking kit components for their renewable and easily accessible nature.
