I’ve Got Your Number

Produced in collaboration with Wales Institute of Mathematical and Computational Sciences, I’ve got your Number is a quiz show with a difference.

Join us in a mathematical game show where teams compete for points by solving problems about statistics and probability in everyday life. Can you work out which is more dangerous: a chainsaw or a Wendy house? Are you more likely to win the lottery or be struck by lightning? Find out whether you can beat the casino, whether you can trust an advert and how to get rich quick!

This interactive show uses lots of audience involvement to make you think about maths in a way you never have before!

Learning Objectives

Key Stage 4

After watching the show Key Stage 4 pupils should:

  • Know how to calculate the probability of multiple events occurring
  • Understand that the chances of events occurring in life have probabilities associated with them that can be worked out mathematically
  • Understand that statistics can be misleading if not interpreted properly, and know what sort of things to question when presented with statistics (sample size, relevance of sample)
  • Know that number sequences can be represented by mathematical formulae
  • Know that number sequences occur in real life examples and that associated mathematical formulae can be extremely useful in modelling the numbers in these examples
  • Understand that maths perforates through many aspects of life, and that a knowledge and an understanding of maths can be very advantageous
