TV and Radio Experience

Science should be a part of our culture. The mass media reaches large, diverse audiences which open up science communication on a whole new level. Our presenters have a passion for presenting the excitement of science to the masses from an approachable angle.

Our experience includes:

  • Research and presenting for HTV Wales science series ‘What on Earth?’
  • Research and presenting on BBC Tomorrow’s World, LiveLab programme
  • Finalist in 2002 Science on Screen competition, BBC Talent
  • Science consultant for BBC Radio Wales magazine programme SCOPE
  • Researcher for BBC Education programme ‘WAN2 TLK Science’
  • Regular contributor to Times Higher Education Supplement with ideas for teachers

For ideas on how to present science for the press, radio or TV, and for experienced, enthusiastic and natural presenters for your science programme, please contact us.

Events Speaking

If you would like something a bit different for your school speech day or prize-giving event, or would like to celebrate a science achievement in your school then we can help. As well as talking in general about what we do, and why we believe science communication is important, we will give your audience practical challenges to think about and vote on. Everybody looks to the science teachers to see how they vote but are they always right? The content of these presentations can be tailored to your particular event.

Careers Talks

When visiting your school or event, why not combine one of our science shows with a careers talk for older students? Science Communication is a new and exciting field, and an interesting example of a career that mixes scientific knowledge with creative skills. As a small business ourselves we can also talk about the challenges and rewards of running your own business.

“…I’ve never seen a speech day audience having quite such a good time and actually speaking to each other. A hard act to follow! Thanks very much.”                                      Head Teacher

Special Projects

In addition to our science shows, careers talks and training courses, we also offer consultancy on a wide range of educational projects. From science books for children to custom-made science education programmes for museums – we’ve done it all.

Special project customers to date include; The Institute of Physics, The Royal Institution, The Royal Society, Cardiff University, The British Council, Thinktank, The National Space Centre, EPSRC (The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council), NESTA (National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts) and BIG (The British Interactive Group).

Some examples of our special projects:

  • Project scientist team for Lab in a Lorry (Development of educational materials and delivery of training for volunteers)
  • New science show commissioned by leading science centre (Research of topic, scriptwriting and props development)
  • Three series of children’s books written for Harcourt Educational publishers (Science of Toys, Machines Inside Machines, and Science in Your Life)
  • Mentor for the EPSRC Public engagement awards (General support and advice for scientists on how to engage the public and evaluate their projects)
  • Music vs the Machine - This show was developed for a 6th form or adult audience for the SASOL Science Festival, South Africa. It addresses the issues of whether musicians can ever be replaced by machines by looking at the way technology makes music, compared to the way humans make music.
  • Show in a box - A kit box for those interested in putting small science shows on in a school or for the local community. Includes props, script and suggested show outline.
  • Visualise - An exciting project illustrating science without words! Using awe-inspiring and beautiful science demonstrations with graphical interpretations of how they work – this presentation – funded by NESTA and the IOP – has been successfully touring worldwide since 2006.
