Storytelling: spotting and writing a good story

< Back to Training List

The aim of this 1-day course is to encourage delegates to think about crafting stories suitable for different audiences. By understanding more about the needs of the three main audiences (journalists, industry and policy makers) and considering the most suitable formats for the story (e.g. press release, blog, elevator pitch) the delegates will gain skills and experience in how to package their work and deliver key messages.

During the day delegates will identify messages and the audiences they want to reach. Understanding the nature of audiences is vital, and our format helps delegates match their messages to different audiences. We will consider the risks associated with misconceptions and distortions of a story – how to mitigate against misconceptions and how to respond if a message goes awry.
